Whilst receiving massage, our therapist might begin working on a tense area that feels like there are little rocks underneath the surface of the skin. These are called 'trigger points' and, contrary to what you may think- it is actually a build up of lactic acid. Lactic Acid is a naturally occurring fluid that is released in our bodies, especially during strenuous activities, that tends to pool in certain areas and creates a 'knot.' These knots can be painful and can be the culprit to causing our muscles to feel tight, headaches, restricted movement, etc.
Thankfully, through the receiving of massage therapy, these knots can be loosened and alleviated. It is highly advised to drink plenty of water before and after a massage therapy session to flush our system of all build ups of lymph, lactic acid and stress hormones.
I kid you knot!
